Manuel Lanzini was an absolute passenger vs Viborg and must not start again for West Ham

West Ham United beat Viborg 3-0 out in Denmark last night, but Manuel Lanzini put in yet another anonymous display.

The Hammers progressed through to the group stages of the UEFA Europa Conference League last night and it was a professional display from everyone on the whole.

We have to say though, Manuel Lanzini was completely anonymous…YET AGAIN.

There have been rumours that the Argentinian could be moved on from the London Stadium this summer, with David Moyes allegedly open to selling him.

It seems to be a common theme that when David Moyes selects the 29-year-old from the start, he nearly always disappoints.

It’s not that he just has bad games when starts but the fact that he actually goes missing, without contributing anything whatsoever at either end of the pitch.

And it was very much the same for him last night…

The 29-year-old offered absolutely nothing once again, when starting for the Hammers.

So the question is, what to do now with the former River Plate man?

Lanzini is a hugely popular figure at the London Stadium. He really does seem to love the club and the fans love him as well.

The Argentinian joined the Hammers on loan from Al Jazira in the summer of 2015. He then made his move to West Ham a permanent one the following year for around £8 million (ESPN).

Perhaps his time with West Ham is coming to an end though.

Since suffering his ACL injury in 2018, he just hasn’t been the same player for West Ham. Lanzini has shown glimpses but whenever we think he’s back, he reverts to the Manu that returned from his injury.

Perhaps it would be wise for David Moyes to move him on this summer. Especially if the Scot manages to bring Lucas Paqueta to the London Stadium.

It would be sad to see Manuel Lanzini leave West Ham, but we genuinely think the time is now right for that to happen.

His performances so far this season have proven that he shouldn’t be starting for the Hammers anymore and Moyes needs to use him as a substitute late on in games at the very best.
