A Manchester City insider has named the West Ham player who Pep Guardiola really admirers.
The Hammers play host to Manchester City tomorrow night in the fourth round of the Carabao Cup.
David Moyes’s side will welcome Man City to the London Stadium having beaten Manchester United away last time out in the third round of the competition.
West Ham have a terrible record against Manchester City at home.
We are a different prospect now under Moyes, however, and Man City boss Pep Guardiola will be well aware of that fact.
And the Spaniard is allegedly a big fan of one Hammers star in particular.
Manchester City insider names West Ham player Pep Guardiola really admirers
Manchester Evening News’ Chief Manchester City writer Stuart Brennan sat down to speak with Football.London’s Tom Clark ahead of tomorrow night’s Carabao Cup clash.
Brennan responded when asked which West Ham player Guardiola is particularly wary of:
“He is a big admirer of Declan Rice who is a serious threat to the midfield dominance City like to assert early in games.”
It will be interesting to see whether Dec actually plays tomorrow night.
The 22-year-old is surely in line for a much-needed rest considering how much football he has played for club and country over the past 18 months or so.
Much will depend on whether Alex Kral is back and available for selection after testing positive for Covid.
It would be great to turn Manchester City over. At the same time though, West Ham have far bigger fish to fry this season.
So we won’t be able to grumble if Moyes selects a semi-strength team without Declan Rice tomorrow night.
