Jesse Lingard took to Twitter last night to clarify what actually happened after a video went viral of his interaction with the Manchester United fans yesterday afternoon.

The 28-year-old left West Ham to return to Manchester United in the summer after a successful loan spell at the London Stadium.
Lingard may well now be wishing that he had stayed with the Hammers, however.

Jesse has hardly played for Man United and was an unused substitute once again at Old Trafford for his side’s clash with Liverpool yesterday.
Whilst warming up on the touchline, Lingard was receiving pelters from a section of Man United fans.

Yesterday, the below video emerged showing Jesse responding to criticism from the fans by saying ‘I’m not even on the pitch’:
That really is poor form from the Man United fans.
The players on the pitch deserved the abuse, not Jesse!

How can Lingard’s work ethic be called into question?
When he moved to West Ham earlier this year he had hardly played for around 12 months.
Yet on his debut he looked like the fittest man on the pitch.
Jesse was loved at West Ham. He clearly isn’t at Old Trafford.
The decision for him should be a simple one. Return to the London Stadium in January and everyone’s a winner.

Hopefully Lingard realises now that that is what he should have done in the summer.
