Jose Mourinho’s comments on Azzedine Ounahi prove that West Ham must go all out to sign him in the January transfer window.

Hammers boss David Moyes allegedly wants to bring the 22-year-old Morocco World Cup star to the London Stadium this winter.

Central midfield is clearly an area at West Ham where the Scot needs to improve over the course of the next year or so.

Tomas Soucek has regressed badly over the past 12 months. Meanwhile, Declan Rice is being heavily linked with a move away from the London Stadium.

And in my opinion, Ounahi would be an excellent addition for the Hammers. He is said to be available for around €45 million (£38 million), according to L’Equipe.

Although that sounds like a lot of money for someone who is unproven in the Premier League, it would represent a great investment for West Ham.

The Angers SCO ace really does have everything that the East London outfit need in the middle of the park, and he possesses all of the attributes required to succeed in the Premier League.

He really is a very good player, with so many years left ahead of him with which to improve even further still.

And now Moyes has been told by one of his old adversaries in no certain terms just much he needs to sign Ounahi…

The Roma manager was speaking to Goal about Morocco’s incredible run at the World Cup out in Qatar.

And Mourinho singled out Ounahi as one of the Atlas Lions’ better players:

They have individuals, [Yassine] Bounou was an individual during the competition and in this game was the same, [Sofyan] Amrabat, I know him from Italian football, very good player. But their No.8, the young boy that plays in France in Angers, Ounahi was absolutely incredible.

Ounahi really put himself on the map with a succession of stunning displays for Morocco out in Qatar.

The Morocco international is a central midfielder by trade, but can also operate further forward or even in the deep-lying role.

He has energy in abundance, is a tenacious tackler and a relentless presser.

The Moroccan still has plenty that he can improve on. If he continues to work hard, applies himself properly both on and off the pitch and is a willing learner, he could very well become an elite top-level footballer.

Jose Mourinho’s comments on Azzedine Ounahi prove that David Moyes should go all out to bring the 22-year-old to West Ham in the January transfer window.

With the likes of Newcastle and Leicester City in the race as well though, the Hammers will have our work cut-out, that’s for sure.
