Harrison Ashby absence for West Ham under-21s surely means only one thing

Harrison Ashby wasn’t included for the under-21’s clash with Blackburn today, and that could mean that he will return to the West Ham first-team tomorrow.

Hammers boss David Moyes has a real central defensive crisis on his hands at the moment.

Craig Dawson and Angelo Ogbonna are struggling with injuries whilst Kurt Zouma and Thilo Kehrer are doubts for tomorrow’s clash with Southampton as well.

And Nayef Aguerd is obviously not available for selection either.

All of this could of course mean that Ben Johnson is drafted into central defence. If that happens though, West Ham will then be short in the right-back department.

So Ashby’s potential return could be very timely indeed…

Harrison Ashby could be set for West Ham first-team return

The 20-year-old right-back made his return for the under-21’s following a troublesome groin injury against MK Dons earlier this month.

The under-21s faced Blackburn this afternoon, and considering the trouble Mark Robson’s side are in at the bottom of the table, they really could have done with Ashby today.

Yet he was nowhere to be seen, either in the starting lineup or on the bench.

I think that that means he’ll be back involved with the senior team for tomorrow’s trip to Southampton.

There is a chance that Ashby picked up an injury, or suffered a setback. We’re hoping that’s not the case though.

The 20-year-old is a truly brilliant player with a really bright future ahead of him.

Described as an ‘excellent’ player by Football.London, Harrison Ashby is one of the brightest talents to have come through the ranks at West Ham.

Moyes could really do with him now, with so many defenders out inured. And I think we may see his name in the squad for tomorrow’s clash with Southampton.
