Declan Rice will not be signing a new contract with West Ham United anytime soon, in what is a huge blow for David Moyes.

That’s according to football journalist Paul Brown who has told Give Me Sport that Dec does not want to tie himself down to a long-term deal at the London Stadium.

Having said that, Brown does claim that as things stand, there aren’t any clubs pushing particularly hard to sign the 23-year-old midfielder.

Rice is massively important to this West Ham United team.

He has been immense for us for three seasons now, but unfortunately that form has not gone unnoticed, with the likes of Liverpool and Chelsea keen to sign him.

Keeping him at the London Stadium will be the main priority for David Moyes over the course of the next 12 months or so.

However, it seems as though the Scot may well have his work cut out…

Well that’s what one football journalist has boldly claimed anyway.

The England International is under contract with West Ham until the summer of 2024, and the club have the option to extend that deal by a further 12 months.

It seems as though the Hammers won’t be able to tie Dec down to new terms though.

Paul Brown has told Give Me Sport Declan Rice will not be signing a new contract with West Ham:

I don’t think there is anyone pushing that hard at the moment to sign Declan Rice, but I think he’s trying to keep his options open and won’t be signing any contracts that tie him to the club and knock down a move in the near future.

It certainly doesn’t surprise us that Rice is keeping his options open.

The things is though, if the West Ham board and Moyes can match Dec’s ambition both on and off the pitch, there is still a chance that we could keep him at the London Stadium for the foreseeable future.

By matching his ambition, I mean further funds being spent on players in transfer windows and really pushing for the top four on the pitch.

Whether we are able to do that is an entirely different matter of course, and it certainly wont be easy with the quality of teams in the Premier League.

If Declan Rice doesn’t sign a new contract with West Ham, this may well be his final season at the London Stadium. We might just have to try and enjoy him while we can, unfortunately.
