David Moyes has fumed at his West Ham United players for allowing one Southampton player to bully them yesterday afternoon.

The Hammers drew 1-1 with the Saints at St Mary’s yesterday, but it was a game that we really should have won.

West Ham went into the game with only one fit centre-back – Thilo Kehrer.

In truth though, we didn’t really miss Kurt Zouma or Craig Dawson.

As per usual, West Ham started the game slowly, and allowed Southampton to dictate the tempo.

After that though, it was all one way traffic, and it’s fair to suggest that the Hammers should have won the match by at least two clear goals.

After the match though, David Moyes was clearly very unhappy with one aspect of his team’s performance…

The Hammers back-line seemed to be at sixes and seven during the first 20 minutes of the match yesterday.

Every ball that the Saints pumped forward looked like it would cause us problems. Granted, as the game went on, the West Ham defenders settled down and pretty much dominated Southampton’s front-line.

Moyes still wasn’t happy though, and told reporters after the match how his players allowed Southampton striker Che Adams to bully them, as quoted by WHUFC.com:

I wouldn’t say that we didn’t start well. We started quite well, but we allowed them into the game a little bit. We allowed [Ché] Adams to bully us, but today was a day when we didn’t have any real central defenders in the game, which gave them a chance to get up the pitch quite quickly and get second balls.

Moyes is right.

The West Ham defenders did give Che Adams far too much respect yesterday.

In fairness to them though, they got to grips with the Saints striker after the first 20 minutes, and didn’t really give him a look-in for the remaining three quarters of the match.

Moyes knows that West Ham should have beaten Southampton yesterday. As do the fans.

It was just a frustrating afternoon all round for everyone involved with the Hammers really.
