Alan Pardew says he’s always loved under-fire West Ham player who’s received fierce criticism lately

Alan Pardew admitted that he absolutely loves West Ham United ace Michail Antonio, when speaking to the club’s official website.

The 31-year-old has been brilliant for the Hammers on the whole since football resumed after the first nationwide lockdown back in June 2020.

David Moyes converted Antonio to a centre-forward and he hasn’t really looked back since.

Micky is currently in the midst of a poor run of form, however. He has scored only two Premier League goals for West Ham since October. Hopefully he finds his best stuff once again very soon, because West Ham need him to be firing on all cylinders as the race for the Champions League places heats up.

Despite his patchy recent form, Antonio still has his admirers both inside and outside of the London Stadium…

Alan Pardew raves about West Ham ace Michail Antonio

The Hammers hitman has been the target of heavy criticism from some sections of the London Stadium fanbase since the turn of the year.

Not only has he not been scoring consistently, but he also appears to have lost some of the hunger that made him such a menace in the first place. Antonio doesn’t close down opposing defenders with the same ferocious intent that he once did.

Perhaps Micky has been found out. Or perhaps he’s just going through a rough spell and will soon return to his very best.

Pardew raved about the West Ham ace, when speaking to WHUFC.com:

“At the top of the pitch the team looks quite stable, with Michail Antonio and Jarrod Bowen. As for Michail, I was his manager at Southampton. I’ve always loved him and I’m very pleased he is doing well.”

Maybe Pardew hasn’t watched West Ham for a while. There is no other explanation for him suggesting that Antonio is ‘doing well’ at the moment.

We all know exactly what Micky is capable of and that’s what makes his poor recent form so frustrating for us fans.

It seems like he just overthinks things at times. He needs to go back to being explosive, unpredictable and a general menace.

A goal would do him the world of good as well. Let’s hope that that comes against Pardew’s old club Newcastle this afternoon. West Ham need Antonio back to his best as a matter of urgency. Our top four hopes depend upon it.
