24-year-old must go down as one of the worst signings ever made by West Ham

Alex Kral surely has to go down as one of the worst signings ever made by West Ham United.

Hammers boss David Moyes brought the 24-year-old midfielder to the London Stadium on a season-long loan from Spartak Moscow last summer.

West Ham had an option to sign him permanently this summer for around £17 million (£12 million plus a potential £5 million in add-ons) according to ExWHUemployee.

That obviously won’t be happening though.

Moyes clearly didn’t rate Kral and hardly gave him any game-time at all.

Kral was only given 255 minutes action by Moyes last season. Incredibly, 21 West Ham players played more minutes than the 24-year-old last term (Transfermarkt).

Even more damning for Kral regarding his lack of suitability to the English game was the fact that he was given just one minute of Premier league action all season long!

Considering Moyes’s lack of options in the middle of the park, that tells us all we need to know about the Czech Republic international…

Kral one of worst West Ham signings of all-time

It is clearly obvious to see that David Moyes simply didn’t rate the Czech Republic international. If he did, he would have used him far more often.

We think that sending Kral back to Moscow will be the right call. If he had anything about him, he would have been given more opportunities this season.

So the only question remaining is: Is Kral the worst West Ham signing of all-time? We think he’s right up there.

There have been some shockers down the years. Manuel Pellegrini oversaw the signings of Roberto, Carlos Sanchez and Jack Wilshere. Those three take some beating but Kral may well take the biscuit.

Another Moyes signing – Nikola Vlasic, could also be in with a shout.

Benni McCarthy, Kieron Dyer and Savio Nsereko were all terrible signings but all of those played more minutes than Kral!

There is the argument that the 24-year-old midfielder simply wasn’t given enough time on the pitch to showcase his talent.

It is obvious that there was a very good reason for that though.

Perhaps Kral won’t go down as one of the very worst West Ham signings of all-time purely because we didn’t actually pay a transfer fee for him.

He should be right up there though.

We wish Alex all the best in his future endeavours. Things just didn’t work out for him at West Ham. And his struggles may well serve as a warning for David Moyes when the Scot is contemplating bringing players in from inferior leagues in the future.
