West Ham United finished the summer transfer window with a very impressive net spend, after signing five first team players, selling four and releasing one.

Congratulations are in order for West Ham manager David Moyes, who oversaw a terrific summer window.

There is a genuine feel-good factor now emanating from the London Stadium after some brilliant new signings and the fantastic start made by the players in the Premier League.

The Hammers are currently sitting in fourth spot in the Premier League table, two points adrift of league leaders Manchester City.

And after the catastrophising after Declan Rice was sold, it’s been quite the turnaround in East London over the past month or so…

West Ham net spend summer transfer window 2023/24

Here are the ins and outs at the London Stadium from the summer window just gone:

Incomings

Edson Alvarez

The Hammers signed the 25-year-old for £34 million in the summer (The Athletic). The Mexican already looks like a sensational addition to Moyes’s ranks.

James Ward-Prowse

West Ham paid Southampton £30 million to prise the 28-year-old away from St Mary’s (BBC), and that already looks like money well spent.

Konstantinos Mavropanos

Moyes paid an initial £17 million to bring the towering Greek centre-half to the London Stadium (Reuters)- an absolute snip if you ask me.

Mohammed Kudus

Our most expensive signing of the summer, the Ghanaian set the Hammers back a cool £38 million (talkSPORT) – still a huge bargain in this day and age as far as I’m concerned.

Andy Irvine

The 23-year-old cost roughly £1 million (Transfermarkt), but was immediately loaned back to SK Austria Klagenfurt as part of a new affiliation between the Austrian and English clubs.

Total: £120 million

Outgoings…

Declan Rice

The 24-year-old left West Ham to join Arsenal for £100 million this summer (ESPN). Considering the fact that he had only two years remaining on his deal, it really was great business for the Hammers.

Gianluca Scamacca

Atalanta paid £27 million to prise the Italian striker away from the London Stadium this summer (Daily Mail). He may well succeed back in Italy, but given his struggles in England, that was a good deal for us.

Nikola Vlasic

The Croatian flopped badly at the London Stadium after joining the club in the summer of 2021. He spent last season on loan with Torino, before joining them permanently in an £8 million deal last month (6 foot 2).

Arthur Masuaku

Somehow, the Hammers managed to get £2 million from Besiktas for the 29-year-old left-back. Whatever way you look at it, that’s fantastic business for the East London otufit! (Football.London).

Total: £137 million

On top of those players, Manuel Lanzini was released and he has since returned to his boyhood club River Plate.

Great work all round with West Ham net spend in the green

Wow, a £17 million profit whilst strengthening your squad at the same time really is very impressive indeed.

Judging by those figures above, the West Ham owners and David Moyes have done brilliantly this summer.

You’d be hard pushed to say that we’re not a better team this season than we were last term. And once Mavropanos and Kudus are fully integrated into the side, we will be a proper team that no other side will relish playing against.

West Ham United’s net spend for the 2023/24 season has been hugely impressive. It was the 3rd best in the Premier League behind only Wolves and Brighton.

Whether we’ll be in the red after the January window remains to be seen, but I believe it will be a one in one out policy again.

One would imagine that David Sullivan will try to balance the books again, after the Hammers were placed on a UEFA watchlist, along with 19 other clubs.
