Opinion: Harrison Ashby could be like a brilliant new signing for West Ham next season

Harrison Ashby could be like a new signing for West Ham United next season, such is the 20-year-old’s talent and potential.

What an incredible young talent David Moyes has on his hands at the London Stadium.

Ashby clearly has all of the attributes needed to make it at the very highest level.

His performance for West Ham against Dinamo Zagreb in the Europa League back in December highlighted that it will only be matter of time before he is consistently included in match-day squads for the senior team.

The 20-year-old is a very solid defender and is a real threat going forward as well.

The Hammers under-23’s is littered with outstanding young players but in my view, Ashby is one of the standouts. And he could be like a new signing for us next season…

Harrison Ashby like a new signing for West Ham

If the 20-year-old continues to work hard and applies himself properly, the sky will be the limit for him at the London Stadium.

Ryan Fredericks has been released by the Hammers. That leaves Vladimir Coufal and Ben Johnson as right-back options for David Moyes.

Coufal will soon be 30 whilst it could be argued that Johnson is actually better when playing in either the left-back or centre-back roles.

And with that in mind, there is a case to be made for Moyes to sign a new right-back. We genuinely don’t think there is any need with Ashby at the club though.

The young Scot could be like a new signing for us next season.

Harrison Ashby bagged five goals and eight assists in just 24 games for West Ham United’s under-18s and under-23s last season.

His vision and passing is second to none for a right-back. And I genuinely believe that Ashby could make a big impression for the Hammers senior team next season.
