West Ham star Ben Johnson fires Genk warning to teammates as Belgians hit form ahead of Europa clash

West Ham United star Ben Johnson fires Genk warning to his Hammers teammates as the Belgians hit top form ahead of Europa League clash.

David Moyes has done a remarkable job at West Ham.

The emergence of Johnson as a bona fide first team star and the fact West Ham will qualify for the Europa League last 16 with a win over Genk are two prime examples of the work the Scot has done in east London.

Johnson really is West Ham’s man of the moment. His performances have been top class since he got his chance in his natural right-back position during the absence of Vladimir Coufal and Ryan Fredericks.

His goal in the 4-1 win at Aston Villa last time out was the cherry on the cake.

West Ham are in Belgium looking to make it four wins from four in the Europa League.

That will seal top spot in Group H although a draw might even be enough depending on the result between Zagreb and Rapid Wien.

That means a place in the last 16 beckons, which crucially gives West Ham a European break until March.

West Ham beat Genk 3-0 in the home tie a couple of weeks back.

But Johnson has fired a warning to his West Ham teammates not to be complacent as he noted that Genk gave the Irons a tough game and have some quality players (whufc.com).

“We know it’s going to be a tough game,” Johnson told whufc.com.

“They came to us and even though the result was 3-0, they were dangerous.

“They played in behind and it was difficult as they’ve got good players. We need to go there and do our jobs again.”

Johnson is right to be wary. Genk have hit top form in the lead up to the game.

Genk have scored 12 goals in their last two games, winning 6-0 in the Belgian Cup and then 6-2 away at Zulte Waregem.

On paper West Ham should have too much quality for Genk.

But the home side have nothing to lose and are scoring freely so will be a dangerous proposition.

Moyes wants his side to get the job done so expect a strong side again for the Europa League game week four clash which kicks off at 5.45pm.
