It’s the first time since 1976 that we have been in a European semi-final.

Each and every West Ham player should be proud after their performances last night. And Ben Johnson deserves a special mention considering his tender years and lack of experience of playing European football.

The 22-year-old really has come on leaps and bounds this season.

Joe Cole raves about Ben Johnson display for West Ham against Lyon

Johnson has established himself as a regular member in David Moyes’ starting XI at the London Stadium this season.

The Hammers academy graduate seems to go from strength-to-strength every single time he plays.

And Joe Cole echoed that sentiment, when speaking on BT Sport last night (Thursday April 14th, 20:54):

“He gets better and better. What a game he’s had.”

Cole is right…Johnson was absolutely brilliant last night.

Considering his age and lack of exposure in European football, the 22-year-old was superb. It seems as though nothing phases the young lad.

He plays with a certain kind of composure and authority that defies his tender years.

The sky’s the limit for Ben Johnson. As long as he continues to work hard and allies himself properly both on and off the pitch, he can achieve anything he wants to in the game.
