Callum Wilson has been one of the stories of the January transfer window thus far, from a West Ham United perspective.
At one point, it looked as if Wilson was set to leave West Ham United following the signings of Taty Castellanos and Pablo Felipe.
However, after the 33-year-old scored a late winner against Tottenham on Saturday, West Ham have decided to keep Wilson at the club for the rest of the season at least.
The chances of escaping relegation just went up 👆
That’s a huge boost for the Hammers. While relying on a player with his injury record would be unwise, there’s little doubt he can offer something off the bench at least.
Keeping Wilson has to be seen as a positive. Now, some more insight into how he feels about his situation has emerged.
Callum Wilson wants regular first team football
Everton were interested in Wilson when it looked as if he was set to leave the Irons after only a few months at the club.
That link is further explored in a recent article from iNews. They suggest that people close to Wilson believe he wants regular first-team football at this stage of his career.
It will be interesting to see if that happens under Nuno Espirito Santo. Though Wilson’s experience and goals can be useful, regularly starting him is a different case entirely – particularly after the additions of Castellanos and Pablo.
Who will prove to be a better signing and why?! 🤔
West Ham can help Callum Wilson achieve his dream
Shortly before leaving Newcastle United, Wilson appeared on The High Performance Podcast.
The forward revealed that he had not ruled out hope of making the England squad for the World Cup later this summer.
“There’s no reason why I can’t play in the World Cup again next year,” he said.

“I think with the previous World Cup, before it was announced, we had an international break in the September and I picked up an injury in it and I’d missed the camp.
“People were like ‘Oh, you were so close you know, you would have got into the World Cup squad if you hadn’t have picked up this.’
“And I was like, ‘That’s not going to stop me’.”
It’s difficult to see how Wilson does beat off competition from the likes of Ollie Watkins but if he keeps scoring goals, he’ll certainly give Thomas Tuchel a decision to make.
West Ham fans want to keep Wilson and the two parties could be good for each other during the second half of the season.
