West Ham’s search for a Michail Antonio heir turns to ‘the best wonderkid you’ve never heard of’ as report makes an exciting Karim Konate claim.

As brilliant a servant as Michail Antonio has been for West Ham, many feel his performance in the defeat at Villa was a watershed moment.

It is not Antonio’s fault that West Ham have failed to replace, upgrade or even find adequate competition for him as he approaches his 34th birthday.

But his struggles are amplified by the failure of David Moyes and the Hammers board to bring in a replacement for Gianluca Scamacca.

West Ham’s search for Michail Antonio heir turns to ‘the best wonderkid you’ve never heard of’ as report makes exciting Karim Konate claim

The Hammers have been heavily linked with a plethora of forwards including the likes of Hugo Ekitike, Youssef En-Nesyri and – more recently – Serhou Guirassy.

Yesterday West Ham were linked with Green striker Vangelis Pavlidis after sending scouts to watch him score a hat-trick for AZ Alkmaar.

Now West Ham’s search for their Antonio heir turns to ‘the best wonderkid you’ve never heard of’ as report makes an exciting Karim Konate claim.

Report claims to have exclusive information on new West Ham striker target

TeamTalk – as also repeated by 90min – have claimed an exclusive around West Ham’s interest in rapid Ivory Coast teen sensation Konate.

The 19-year-old plays for RB Salzburg in Austria and is described as ‘arguably the most exciting talent to come out of the Ivory Coast for many years’.

Konate has also rather intriguingly been labelled as ‘the best wonderkid you’ve never heard of’ in a video feature on the ‘remarkable story’ behind his rise to prominence.

If true the Konate interest has all the hallmarks of Steidten

“We can reveal the club also have 19-year-old Karim Konate of RB Salzburg on their radar,” TeamTalk claims.

“At this stage it is unclear whether that intent is around a January move – with our sources of the belief it could be more focused on the summer market.”

If West Ham are indeed eyeing Konate then it has all the hallmarks of new technical director Tim Steidten.

Konate has a superb record of 45 goals in 82 games and has already made nine appearances for his senior national team during his young career so far.
