West Ham want to sign 26-year-old Arsenal attacker in the summer transfer window, highly respected journalist claims

West Ham United are reportedly eying a move to sign Arsenal attacker Nicolas Pepe in the summer transfer window.

That’s according to Miguel Delaney who made the claim that the Arsenal forward could be Hammers bound before the start of next season in his Reading The Game column for The Independent.

Arsenal signed Pepe from Lille in the summer of 2018 for around £72 million (BBC).

The 26-year-old has really struggled to establish himself at the Emirates though. And he clearly doesn’t feature in the future plans of Gunners boss Mikel Arteta according to The Sun.

Now, whether Pepe would actually be open to leaving Arsenal remains to be seen. But it seems as though West Ham could make a surprise move to sign the Ivory Coast international in the summer…

West Ham eyeing summer transfer window move for Nicolas Pepe

Miguel Delaney has suggested that Pepe is on the Hammers’ radar ahead of the summer transfer window.

And the Gunners are allegedly prepared to sell the Ivorian for around £25 million.

Delaney is a well-respected journalist with over 171k followers on Twitter and he is not known for spreading false rumours.

We strongly believe that David Moyes should give this one a wide-berth though.

Sure, West Ham could do with bringing a new winger to the London Stadium in the transfer window this summer but the Arsenal man just doesn’t fit the right profile of player for the Hammers.

Pepe has only bagged 27 goals and 20 assists in 109 games for the Gunners (Transfermarkt). More importantly though, he has never really taken a game by the scruff of the neck and dominated.

Considering the fact that Arsenal paid £72 million for him, they would have expected him to be far more influential in big games.

Pepe does have pace but he is far too predictable to defend against. He always cuts inside onto his left foot from the right wing and defenders seem to easily telegraph that move now.

We strongly believe that there are plenty of better, more cost-effective options out there for the Hammers this summer.

And we would be really surprised if West Ham ended up signing Nicolas Pepe from Arsenal in the summer transfer window.
