Chelsea v Liverpool: The Emirates FA Cup Final

West Ham want to seal summer transfer for 'very explosive' Liverpool ace whose contract expires in 2023

West Ham United could make a move to sign Liverpool star Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain in the summer transfer window.

That’s according to a report from The Mirror who claim that the Liverpool midfielder could be set for an Anfield exit this summer, having been left out of the starting XI selected by Jurgen Klopp to face Southampton on Tuesday night.

Hammers manager David Moyes will be desperate to bolster his ranks at the London Stadium this summer.

The Scot needs to strengthen all over the pitch, especially in the middle of the park.

The addition of a versatile midfielder would do the trick this summer and that’s where Oxlade-Chamberlain of Liverpool comes in…

West Ham eyeing summer transfer for Liverpool star

The Mirror reckon that the 28-year-old Reds man is firmly on the Hammers’ radar ahead of the summer transfer window.

The only thing we don’t like about the report is the mention at the end that the Ox could be used in some kind of swap deal for West Ham ace Jarrod Bowen. That obviously won’t happen.

However, a standalone move to sign Oxlade-Chamblerlain from Liverpool may well work for the Hammers.

The 28-year-old is incredibly versatile. He can operate as a box-to-box midfielder, further forward in a play-making role or on either wing.

The Ox, who earns £110k-a-week (Football League FC) possesses blistering pace and he is incredibly powerful. He has all of the attributes needed to excel in the central midfield role and the Liverpool ace would provide West Ham with another truly top class option in the middle of the park.

The Liverpool man has experienced problems with injuries in the past and that will be somewhat of a concern for the Hammers.

If he can manage his fitness properly though, he could be a useful addition for West Ham. Former Arsenal teammate Aaron Ramsey described the Ox as ‘very explosive’ (Arsenal’s website).

Oxlade-Chamberlain will be desperate to play regular football during the first half of next season, with the World Cup in Qatar on the horizon.

A move to the London Stadium from Anfield may well give him the chance to show Gareth Southgate what he’s got.

He’s only made 42 starts for the Merseyside outfit since moving to Anfield from Arsenal in the summer of 2017. So an exit from Liverpool this summer seems almost inevitable.

And if West Ham manage to seal a summer transfer for Liverpool ace Oxlade-Chamberlain for a reasonable fee, we think it might just work out well for us, and him.
