West Ham United are said to be eyeing up a big move to sign a key Celtic player in the January window.

The Celtic star has been a big hit in the Champions League this season, and he is apparently firmly on the West Ham radar ahead of the January transfer window.

According to TEAMtalk, Hoops midfielder Matt O’Riley is being chased by the East London outfit this winter, although we could face competition from the likes of Newcastle United and Leicester City for his signature.

Hammers boss David Moyes has been eyeing the Celtic ace for quite some time now, and it was recently claimed that Celtic will demand around £25 million for the 23-year-old.

The Scot definitely needs to add more competition and cover to his central midfield department this winter.

And it seems as though O’Riley could very well be the man for the job…

West Ham eyeing January window move for Celtic star

TEAMtalk reckon that the Hammers are closely monitoring the Hoops midfielder, with just under two weeks remaining before the winter window opens up.

Born in Hounslow, O’Riley began his youth career with Fulham, before moving to MK Dons in 2021 and then eventually Celtic in January 2022.

The 23-year-old has proven to be an excellent signing for the Hoops, and has bagged nine goals and eight assists in 24 games for Brendan Rodgers’ side this season (Transfermarkt) – not bad for a midfielder eh!

He racked up three assists in six Champions League games this term – proof that he’s capable of dining at the very top table.

O’Riley is a central midfielder by trade, but he can operate in the deep-lying role and the number 10 position as well if need be. The Celtic star possesses impressive technical ability and is ideally suited to the robust and intense nature of Premier League.

That kind of versatility will undoubtedly appeal to Moyes, especially considering his £25 million minimum price-tag. He’s a really hard worker as well – something that is a prerequisite for anyone who wants to play for a team managed by Moyes.

If West Ham manage to sign Matt O’Riley from Celtic for £25 million in the January transfer window, I think it would be great value for us.
