West Ham are interested in signing Jonathan David from Lille in the January transfer window according to a report from the Daily Mail.

Hammers boss David Moyes absolutely has to sign a top-class centre-forward this month.

West Ham are in desperate need of more competition and cover for Michail Antonio.

The East London outfit are well in contention for the Champions League places. We will have no chance unless Moyes makes a couple of first-class signings before January 31st though.

And we think that Jonathan David would be a truly sensational addition for the Hammers. Signing him will be far from straightforward though…perhaps even impossible.

West Ham want January deal for Jonathan David but there’s a big problem

The Daily Mail reckon that the Hammers are in the hunt for the 21-year-old’s signature.

We think it might be impossible to sign the Canadian though…for two reasons.

Firstly, it will cost a whopping £45 million to prise him away from the Ligue 1 outfit according to a report from Jeunes Footeux.

There is absolutely no way that West Ham will be shelling out that kind of cash on one player this month. As good as David is, there is no chance that the Hammers owners will be willing to make such a huge outlay after what happened with Sebastien Haller.

Secondly, there will be fierce competition for the Canada international’s signature.

Liverpool and Arsenal want to sign David as well according to Football.London. Beating those two clubs to the young striker’s signature will obviously be problematic.

It’s a shame because David would be an unreal addition for West Ham. He possesses electric pace and is a real live-wire. The Lille ace is a good finisher as well. He has already scored 18 goals for his country and has bagged 16 goals in 27 games for Lille so far this season (Transfermarkt).

Unfortunately for West Ham though, this one is highly unlikely to happen…certainly in January.
