West Ham United are still keen to sign Brazilian centre-back Luizao on a free transfer in the January transfer window.

That’s according to a report from Gazeta Esportiva who claim that the 20-year-old centre-back could be London Stadium bound in the new year.

Those claims are in direct contrast to a recent report that suggested the Hammers had in fact turned down the chance to sign the Brazilian youngster.

It appears as though West Ham manager David Moyes is still keeping tabs on Luizao ahead of the January transfer window though.

The recent central defensive injury crisis at the London Stadium may well have tempted Moyes to consider the South American again.

In addition to that, it’s worth noting that Angelo Ogbonna and Craig Dawson are 34 and 32 respectively now.

So it’s certainly possible that Moyes goes shopping for a young centre-back in January…

According to a report from Gazeta Esportiva, the Hammers and Fulham are monitoring the 20-year-old Sao Paulo starlet ahead of his contract expiring in January.

We actually think that he would be a smart addition for West Ham.

He might be totally unproven in the Premier League and very rough around the edges, but signing him on a free transfer would have negated the risks involved in the deal.

Luizao is an aggressive young defender whose playing style is quintessentially South American, what with his tenacity and aggression.

He’s a very good tackler and is commanding in the air. It does seem as though Luizao has all of the attributes needed to succeed in England with West Ham.

Much will depend on whether Moyes and his staff believe that the 20-year-old could actually go on to be a hit at the very highest level.

West Ham will undoubtedly be active in the January transfer window.

Whether Luizao will be someone who Moyes brings to the London Stadium though, remains to be seen.
