West Ham United manager Julen Lopetegui appears to be in the market for another striker before the summer transfer window closes.

Julen Lopetegui has completely transformed the West Ham squad since he arrived at the club earlier this summer.

The Hammers head coach wants even more new arrivals though, and is demanding two top-class players in every single position.

However, the Spaniard must shift some of the deadwood first this summer, before he can make that happen.

If Lopetegui manages to move on some of the fringe players, he could make our squad even stronger by bringing in one or two more top-class players.

And it seems like the addition of another centre-forward could well be on the menu before Friday’s transfer deadline day is upon us.

Lopetegui already has a seriously talented group of players amongst his ranks at the London Stadium.

However, the addition of another striker could well take us to another level entirely.

And it seems like that’s exactly the signing the Hammers manager is trying to get over the line.

According to a report from Corriere dello Sport (print edition August 25th, page 20), West Ham have initiated contact with Roma about bringing Tammy Abraham to the London Stadium this summer.

And the Hammers have been told to pay just €23 million (£19.5 million) for the 26-year-old striker.

That seems like truly outstanding value to me, given Abraham’s quality and consistency when playing at the very highest level.

Bringing Tammy back to London should be an absolute no-brainer for West Ham this summer as far as I’m concerned.

The 26-year-old would be a big upgrade on Michail Antonio, there’s absolutely no doubting that, what with his finishing ability and aerial strength.

His record is incredibly impressive, with 130 goals in in 339 career appearances for club and country to his name.

Standing at 6ft 5in tall, Abraham is a real handful in the air, and would undoubtedly be a big problem for opposing Premier League defenders – he proved that during his time with Chelsea.

However, the fact that he has missed 301 days of football since suffering an ACL injury when playing for Roma in 2023 is a big concern.

Tammy Abraham has suffered persistent ankle problems throughout his career as well, so that would obviously be a worry for West Ham if we did sign him this summer.

On the whole, I think signing him would be a risk worth taking, especially if we manage to get him for around the £19 million mark.
