West Ham United transfer target Mohamed Bayo has admitted that he is looking for a fresh challenge next season.
Hammers boss David Moyes wants to bring the 23-year-old Clermont striker to the London Stadium this summer in an £8.4 million deal, according to Foot Mercato.
Michail Antonio has been the only centre-forward option available to Moyes over the past 18 months and that just isn’t good enough for a club with supposed aspirations of challenging for honours both domestically and on the continent.
West Ham’s current striker situation obviously needs to change if we are to compete on all fronts next season.
The Hammers have been linked with so many strikers since Sebastien Haller left in January 2021. Bayo is one of the standouts as far as I’m concerned, taking into consideration his suitability to Premier League football and bargain fee.
And it seems as though West Ham will have a very good chance of signing him…
West Ham transfer target Bayo speaks out
The 23-year-old hitman has been with Clermont since he was a teenager.
It seems as though his time with the Ligue 1 club could be coming to an end, however.
Bayo spoke exclusively to Footballogue and suggested that his time with Clermont is coming to an end:
“I had a season in National, I scored. I did a season in Ligue 2, it went well. We have stayed in Ligue 1 this season. The logical next step is to move towards a new challenge. I don’t want to run for the money, I want a project where in the game.”
We believe that signing Bayo is somewhat of a no-brainer for the Hammers.
The 23-year-old was in fine form this season with 14 goals and five assists in 32 Ligue 1 games to his name (Transfermarkt). That comes after bagging 22 goals and eight assists in 38 Ligue 2 games last term.
At just 23, he has so much talent and potential. He is still very raw of course. He has all the skills needed but they need to be refined before he becomes an elite striker.
Importantly, Bayo possesses blistering pace and he is very strong indeed, so should be ideally suited to Premier League football.
If Bayo really is a target for West Ham, there is no reason why we shouldn’t be able to get this one wrapped up as soon as possible.
