A West Ham reporter has made a big claim about Nottingham Forest as duo battle for free agent striker Andre Ayew outside of the window.

West Ham and Nottingham Forest famously did battle to sign Jesse Lingard in the summer window.

Lingard revealed last month that West Ham did not show the same ‘love and respect’ towards him as Forest did, resulting in him snubbing David Moyes for the City Ground.

Now it seems Nottingham Forest are moving on another supposed West Ham target outside the transfer window.

Deadline day came and went with no arrivals at West Ham, who only signed Danny Ings last month.

That was in stark contrast to Forest who signed another six players to the tune of around £43m all told – with £15m of that required to make Chris Wood’s move permanent in the summer.

A shock report from 90 Min this week claimed that West Ham and Everton were two of five Premier League clubs interested in signing 33-year-old Ayew.

The forward is available on a free transfer after terminating his contract at Qatari side Al Sadd.

The Ghana international joined the Hammers in the summer of 2016 from Swansea City for £20.5 million (BBC).

Injuries wreaked havoc with his West Ham career, though, and he was swiftly shipped back to the Swans in January 2018 for around £20 million (BBC).

Incredibly though, Ayew was touted for a shock return to east London ahead of deadline day with the likes of Everton and Forest also said to be interested.

Earlier this afternoon transfer reporter Fabrizio Romano claimed Ayew is on his way to London to discuss a move with Everton and another unnamed club.

Speculation abound that the mystery club could be West Ham given the injuries to Ings and fellow striker Gianluca Scamacca – and what is at stake for the Hammers in the second half of the season.

But a West Ham reporter has made a big claim about Nottingham Forest as duo battle for free agent striker Ayew.

Football London’s West Ham reporter Jonty Colman claims West Ham are not the unnamed club vying with Everton for Ayew.

Instead it is Nottingham Forest who are sending a delegation to London to try and get him to join Lingard at the City Ground.

“Reported yesterday that there was understood to be no interest in free agent Andre Ayew,” Colman said on Twitter.

“Looking like those two clubs being reported in for him are Everton and Nottingham Forest.”
