There is an absolutely huge boost for David Moyes as Newcastle star man Bruno Guimaraes is set to miss the West Ham clash after a red card.

Newcastle United played the second leg of their Carabao Cup semi-final against Southampton on Tuesday night ahead of this weekend’s match against West Ham.

The Hammers are desperate to build on back-to-back 2-0 wins in the league and FA Cup as they battle for survival.

Going to St James’ Park to face Newcastle is a totally different proposition nowadays despite West Ham’s recent good record on the road to the Magpies.

There is no doubting that Lucas Paqueta’s good friend and Brazil teammate Guimaraes is the star man for Newcastle.

So there is a huge boost for Moyes as Newcastle star man Guimaraes misses the West Ham clash after a red card.

And after a change of rules three years ago, it means the Newcastle favourite will now miss the game against West Ham this weekend.

Red cards in the EFL Cup sees players suspended across all domestic competitions.

As of the 2019/20 season, the rules were changed so that suspensions from accumulating yellow cards only applied for the specific competition.

However, red cards still carry across all competitions.

For Guimaraes, that means he will miss the clash with West Ham at St James’ Park on Saturday night.

And that quite simply is a massive boost for West Ham.

Indeed it is arguably the best thing to happen to the Hammers on deadline day.

The good news for Newcastle is that the Brazil star won’t miss the final as a result of the rule change.
