West Ham United are allegedly keen to sign Chelsea midfielder Ross Barkley in the summer transfer window, but face competition from Celtic.
That’s according to football journalist Si Phillips who claims that whilst the Hammers are interested in the 28-year-old Chelsea man, Celtic have made the first official move to sign him.

It appears as though Celtic have taken the lead in the race for the Chelsea midfielder though.

David Moyes desperately needs to bolster his central midfield ranks at the London Stadium before the transfer window slams shut. So it’s no surprise that the old links with Barkely have begun to resurface again.
Let’s just hope that these links are nothing more than hearsay though. Ross Barkley is not a player we should be targeting…
West Ham want to sign Ross Barkley as Celtic make first move for Chelsea man
Celtic have made a bid to sign the 28-year-old Blues midfielder on a permanent deal whilst the Hammers remain interested in acquiring his services according to Chelsea insider Si Phillips.
Let’s hope that the Hoops sign him eh!
He made just six Premier League appearances for Chelsea under Thomas Tuchel last season, with only one of those a start (Transfermarkt).
Barkley earns £96k-a-week at Stamford Bridge (Spotrac). And it was recently reported that Chelsea could demand as much as £30 million for Barkley (The Express & Star).
This is one that we need to steer well clear of and it’s a good thing that Celtic appear to be pushing ahead with their interest in his signature.
If David Moyes is interested in signing Barkley, someone needs to get in his ear, and fast.

Since the start of the 2017/18 campaign, Barkley has missed 322 days of action and 64 games through injury (Transfermarkt).
During that period of time, the 27-year-old has bagged only 14 goals and 12 assists in 125 games.
Barkley was an incredibly exciting young talent when he burst onto the scene at Goodison Park as a teenager a decade ago.
Unfortunately for him though, he has never realised his true potential and his time with Chelsea has been a long and arduous struggle.
And we would be delighted if Celtic beat West Ham to the signing of Ross Barkley from Chelsea this summer.
