West Ham reportedly want to sign £30m Chelsea man Ross Barkley

West Ham reportedly want to sign £30m Chelsea man Ross Barkley

West Ham United allegedly now want to sign Chelsea midfielder Ross Barkley in the summer transfer window.

That’s according to football journalist Simon Phillips who told Give Me Sport that the Hammers are battling the likes of Everton and Aston Villa for the Chelsea midfielder’s signature.

We have extensively covered how Chelsea man Barkley would be a poor signing for West Ham right here on Hammers News over the past year or so.

West Ham boss David Moyes has already made five top-class signings this summer. The truth of the matter, however, is that the Scot needs a lot more.

The addition of an attacking midfielder or a number 10 is much needed at the London Stadium.

Moyes missed out on Jesse Lingard last month but it seems as though he has an alternative option lined up…

West Ham eyeing Chelsea man Ross Barkley

The Hammers allegedly want to sign the 28-year-old Blues midfielder this summer.

The 33-capped England international is on West Ham radar according to football journalist Simon Phillips who told Give Me Sport:

“With Ross Barkley, he’s got a lot of other clubs interested in him at the moment so it’s not just Everton. He’s got Brighton, Newcastle, West Ham and Aston Villa and Celtic. So got plenty of options to go to.”

He made just six Premier League appearances for Chelsea under Thomas Tuchel last season, with only one of those a start (Transfermarkt).

Barkley earns £96k-a-week at Stamford Bridge (Spotrac). And it was recently reported that Chelsea could demand as much as £30 million for Barkley (The Express & Star).

This is one that we need to steer well clear of.

If David Moyes is interested in signing Barkley, someone needs to get in his ear, and fast.

Since the start of the 2017/18 campaign, Barkley has missed 322 days of action and 64 games through injury (Transfermarkt).

During that period of time, the 27-year-old has bagged only 14 goals and 12 assists in 125 games.

Barkley was an incredibly exciting young talent when he burst onto the scene at Goodison Park as a teenager a decade ago.

Unfortunately for him though, he has never realised his true potential and his time with Chelsea has been a long and arduous struggle.

We strongly believe that signing Ross Barkley this summer would be a real backwards step for West Ham.
