West Ham reportedly have low-ball Sam Johnstone bid rejected

West Ham have made a low-ball bid for West Brom goalkeeper Sam Johnstone yesterday according to a report from The Athletic.

The offer from the Hammers was considerably lower than the Baggies’ £10 million asking price for the 28-year-old, however.

David Moyes needs to bring a new goalkeeper to the London Stadium at some point over the course of the next 12 months.

Whether it should be a priority for the Scot this summer is debatable, however.

Nevertheless, it seems as though the West Ham boss is determined to strengthen his goalkeeping ranks at the club before the start of the new season.

The Evening Standard recently claimed that the Hammers are keen to sign Alphonse Areola from Paris Saint-Germain.

That’s not where the goalkeepers links end, however.

The Athletic claims that the Hammers made an offer for the 28-year-old Baggies stopper yesterday but it was well below the asking price set by the Black Country outfit.

If the report is true, it really is a shame that the West Ham owners seem to be up to their old tricks.

If David Moyes wants these players, i.e Johnstone and/or Areola, then David Sullivan should be doing everything within his power to make it happen.

£10 million for a goalkeeper with Johnstone’s quality is great value.

Surely the West Ham board can justify paying that kind of fee for an England international…surely.

Perhaps not. If the Hammers miss out on the 28-year-old it is clear as to where the blame will lie.
