West Ham need to walk away from any interest we are showing in signing Blackburn Rovers striker Ben Brereton Diaz this month.
The Daily Mail and club insider ExWHUemployee have both recently claimed that Hammers boss David Moyes wants to bring the 22-year-old centre-forward to the London Stadium in the January transfer window.
West Ham desperately need to sign a top-class striker this month.
Michail Antonio has been brilliant for the Hammers this season but his goals have dried up significantly over the past couple of months.
The 31-year-old clearly needs more competition and cover. And apparently Blackburn hitman Ben Brereton Diaz is an option for the East London outfit. We believe that the Hammers could and should be doing a lot better though…
West Ham must walk away from Blackburn striker Brereton Diaz
The 22-year-old hitman has been in very good form this season with his goals helping fire his side to second spot in the Championship table.
He has 20 goals in 25 Championship appearances for Blackburn to his name (Transfermarkt).
Those impressive numbers could very well be a complete anomaly though. Before this season, the Chile international had scored just 20 goals in 146 games for both Nottingham Forest and Blackburn (Transfermarket).
That is a shocking record for a striker, it really is.
One swallow doesn’t make a summer as the old saying goes. Who’s to say that the 22-year-old isn’t riding a wave of confidence having recently been called up to the Chile squad and will soon come back to earth with a bang?
There is no evidence to suggest that Brereton Diaz would be able to produce the goods in the Premier League on a consistent basis.
And here’s the kicker…TEAMtalk reckon Blackburn will demand £30 million for the centre-forward this month.
That is a quite ridiculous fee considering the fact that the striker has only been in decent goalscoring form for four or five months out of his career!
West Ham have been linked with plenty of strikers since Sebastien Haller left the London Stadium for Ajax this time last year. Moyes needs to ensure that the next striker signing he makes is absolutely spot on.
The Hammers cannot afford to get this one wrong.
Bringing in Brereton Diaz from Blackburn would reek of a panic signing. Splashing out £30 million on the Chilean ace would be absolute madness. He quite simply hasn’t done enough to justify that kind of price-tag.
The 22-year-old is a decent player, that goes without saying. Is he good enough for what we need at West Ham though? The harsh answer to that question is no.
West Ham need to walk away now and focus our efforts signing an established striker with real pedigree of producing the goods at the very highest level for a sustained period of time.
There are plenty of them out there and some of them won’t cost us £30 million either!
