West Ham United had better prepare for a huge battle ahead with Arsenal set to go all out to sign 22-year-old star in the summer transfer window.
The upcoming summer transfer window will be a vitally important one for both West Ham United and Arsenal.
Hammers boss David Moyes desperately needs to bolster pretty much every area of his squad before the start of next season.
One specific area that seems to go under the radar though, is the central midfield department, with a dynamic, energetic and physically powerful ball carrier required at the London Stadium.
With that in mind, Amadou Onana of Everton would be a fabulous addition for West Ham in the summer – a player who Moyes tried to sign last summer.
In fact, the Hammers boss first lost out in the race for the Belgian midfielder’s signature in the summer of 2022, when he ended up joining Everton from Lille.
And now, Moyes could miss out on the 6ft 5in powerhouse yet again…

West Ham face a big summer transfer window problem
According to a report form Sport (print edition February 10th, page 8), Arsenal have already made contact with Everton about bringing Onana to the Emirates in the summer.
If the Gunners really are already making plans to sign Onana, West Ham quite simply won’t have a chance.
I just wish that Moyes had pushed harder to sign him from Lille 18 months ago – he’s exactly the kind of player we need, and the £33 million that Everton paid for him (Independent) was an absolute steal in my opinion.
Onana’s teammate Abdoulaye Doucoure labelled the midfielder as ‘unreal’ after Everton’s win over West Ham earlier this season (Everton News).
He has power, pace, athleticism, energy and dynamism in abundance and would take us to a whole new level as a team. Onana would certainly be a massive upgrade on Tomas Soucek, there is absolutely no doubt about that.
However, it seems like Arsenal are going to be a big problem for West Ham in the race for Onana’s signature in the summer transfer window.
If the Gunners do sign the Everton man, I’m sure that Moyes will be left regretting not bringing the Belgian to the London Stadium sooner.
