West Ham United’s move for Chelsea defender Kurt Zouma had looked dead in the water until this evening.

West Ham were linked with a £20.5 million move for Chelsea defender Zouma last month.

Initially there was encouragement that Zouma would welcome a move to West Ham in order to remain in London.

But last week The Guardian claimed the French international was in fact not interested in joining West Ham, despite Chelsea holding talks with the Hammers over a potential transfer fee.

Since then West Ham have redoubled their efforts to sign Fiorentina contract rebel Nikola Milenkovic.

Indeed reports from Italy overnight claimed the Serbian centre-back could be set for a medical with West Ham soon as a deal ‘edges closer’.

Moyes makes Zouma call but Milenkovic could still be on

But out of the blue – quite literally – this evening, West Ham insider ExWHUemployee claims the Hammers’s move for Zouma could be back ON.

Speaking on The West Ham Way patreon site, Ex says the development does not necessarily mean the move for Milenkovic is off.

“On an interesting turn of events I am hearing that talks for Zouma had resumed and that the transfer could still be back on,” ExWHUemployee said on The West Ham Way patreon site.

Insider ExWHUemployee lifts lid on new twist

“It is thought that West Ham went in with one last offer and that this offer could be enough to get it over the line. The talks will continue today and with Milenkovic (still agent issues with that deal) but this could be yet another interesting twist in the story as Zouma was always the preferred choice.”

Milenkovic is one of the most highly rated defenders in Europe and is dubbed ‘the new Nemanja Vidic’.

Zouma meanwhile continues to have question marks over his consistency at the top level.

So could this new Zouma move be an attempt at a threat from West Ham to force Fiorentina’s hand in their negotiations for Milenkovic?

Time will tell but it appears Moyes will be getting at least one quality centre-back unless the Hammers manage to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.
