West Ham January transfer window news: David Moyes eyes £12 million Championship centre-back

West Ham January transfer window news: David Moyes is back in for Nottingham Forest defender Joe Worrall as time ticks down.

That’s according to a report from The Athletic who claim that the Scot is absolutely desperate to get the signing of a centre-back done and dusted before the winter window closes.

Moyes’s need for a new centre-back in the January transfer window has been well-documented already.

Angelo Ogbonna is out for the entire season whilst Kurt Zouma has only just returned from a serious injury. Meanwhile, Issa Diop has proven that he is just nowhere near good enough to be playing regular first-team football.

West Ham’s hopes if finishing inside the European spots this season depend heavily on our ability to bring a top-class central defender to the London Stadium before deadline day.

And it seems as though Moyes is determined to make it happen…

West Ham January transfer window news

The Athletic claims that Nottingham Forest defender Joe Worrall is firmly on the Hammers’ radar as the clock continues to tick down towards deadline day.

It is suggested that Moyes is frantically chasing the signing of a top-class centre-back after entering the final week of the January window.

We think that Worrall would be a very smart addition for West Ham.

The 25-year-old is well known for being an aerially dominant and a tough tackling centre-back.

Worrall stands at 6ft 4in tall and is a real warrior. He is exactly the kind of centre-back David Moyes should be looking to sign.

He is a composed defender, extremely mature for his age and is already a real leader for Forest.

In 22 Championship appearances for Forest this season, Worrall has averaged two tackles, two interceptions, 3.7 clearances and one block per game. He has also won an average of 2.4 aerial duels per match during those outings (Who Scored).

Club insiders Claret and Hugh recently suggested that the man-mountain of a centre-back could be available for just £8 million. The Daily Mail reckon that Nottingham Forest value him closer to £12 million, however.

If we manage to pick Worrall up for around £10 million or so, then we think that would be very good business. And given our current defensive injury crisis, the 25-year-old would be a very welcome addition at the London Stadium.
