A West Ham insider says Rob Newman and David Moyes are plotting to sign a Serie A duo in the January and summer transfer windows.

After a barren January transfer window, the Hammers spent over £170m on eight quality players in the summer.

The big influx was always on the cards given 10 players from last season’s squad departed ahead of the new campaign.

West Ham are not done there in moulding Moyes’ new-look squad, though.

As reported a couple of weeks ago, West Ham face the prospect of another raft of departures with a host of players out of contract in the summer and there are also doubts over whether Declan Rice will remain beyond next summer.

So West Ham cannot afford to stand still and it appears they have no intention of doing so.

Because a West Ham insider says Rob Newman and David Moyes are plotting to sign a Serie A duo in the January and summer windows.

According to Claret and Hugh’s inside source at West Ham, Newman and Moyes are looking to the Italian top flight for ‘bargains’.

And the insider says the club want to potentially sign two new players – a midfielder and a defender.

“Newman used to work for Manchester City and would take himself off to Portugal, Spain, and Italy with regularity as he looked to find new players for the Premier League champions,” report Claret and Hugh.

“Sources have confirmed to C&H that he is doing similar for the Hammers and is interested in signing players from Serie A, as David Moyes continues to reshape his squad.

“There is interest in signing another central midfielder, while there could also be a desire to sign a new defender.”

It makes sense that the Hammers are eyeing Serie A for players.

West Ham made what looks set to be one of their best signings for years with the £35m purchase of striker Gianluca Scamacca from Sassuolo in the summer.

The Hammers were also heavily linked with Fiorentina defender Nikola Milenkovic and Napoli’s midfield ace Piotr Zielinski.

While in recent weeks there has been speculation that Moyes could move for Italy midfielders Davide Frattesi and Manuel Locatelli.
