A West Ham insider has put deluded London rivals Arsenal in their place over a new Jarrod Bowen transfer claim.
Both West Ham and Arsenal desperately need to sign a new striker this summer.
And they got their men with West Ham signing reported Arsenal target Gianluca Scamacca and the Gunners getting Gabriel Jesus – who had also been linked with a move to the London Stadium (The Done Deal Show).
In fact David Moyes and Mikel Arteta have both been linked with shared interest in a host of players including Arsenal signing Oleksandr Zinchenko and midfielder Amadou Onana.
Now new speculation suggests Arteta is taking competing with West Ham in the transfer market to the next level – by trying to sign one of Moyes’ best players.
Bowen enjoyed a superb season for West Ham last term, bagging 18 goals and 13 assists for the Hammers.
That form saw Bowen linked with a move to Liverpool as a replacement for Mohamed Salah. But that has gone quiet now the Egyptian has signed his new deal at Anfield.
Then last month Bowen was suddenly linked with Arsenal.
The Beautiful Game Podcast report that the Gunners have begun negotiations over a potential move to bring Bowen to the Emirates during the summer transfer window.
We labelled those reports of an Arsenal raid on West Ham for Bowen as utterly comical.
Now there have been new reports of Arsenal interest in Bowen with CBS journalist Ben Jacobs telling The Beautiful Game Podcast Arteta has ‘definitely enquired’.
Now a West Ham insider has put deluded Arsenal in their place over the new Bowen transfer claim.
A ‘key’ West Ham contact at the London Stadium told Claret and Hugh Bowen is going nowhere and is believed to want to discuss a contract extension with the Hammers.
Although the report’s valuation of Bowen would surely be some way off the kind of figure West Ham would place on his head in the modern market.
“Speculation that Arsenal were keen prompted us to ask a key London Stadium contact about the situation given that he is now valued at around the £50 million mark,” Claret and Hugh report.
“We were told: “It’s the usual fiction. There have been no enquiries and we won’t be welcoming any. He is staying here”.”
Arsenal are a massive club with a rich history of winning trophies. But they are a club who seem to be stuck in transition ever since the move to the Emirates.
In that time the Hammers have closed the gap and boast a bigger stadium capacity with 62,500 fans set to fill the London Stadium every other week.
Even if Arsenal are interested in West Ham’s star attacker, there is simply no way Bowen would see that move as a step up right now. Certainly not a significant one.
West Ham and Arsenal are competing for the same positions in the Premier League in recent years.
If Bowen was ever going to leave West Ham it would be for a club playing regular Champions League football.
