West Ham United apparently could make a surprise move to sign a Tottenham Hotspur player in the January window.

The January transfer window is now open, and West Ham are believed to be eyeing up a move to sign a Tottenham player who hasn’t featured much this season.

Hammers boss David Moyes is believed to be on the hunt for a new centre-back this winter, and Jonathan Tah is apparently the man who the Scot and Director of Football Tim Steidten have settled on as their prime target.

However, it seems as though West Ham could be looking to sign someone a little closer to home, with Tottenham defender Eric Dier firmly on our radar according to a report from Football Transfers – a player we were linked with signing three years ago, but it obviously didn’t happen then.

In fact, it is suggested that the Hammers have already made contact with Spurs about signing the 49-capped England international.

Dier has played just four Premier League games for Spurs this season, for a total of 198 minutes (Transfermarkt).

I think the 29-year-old would be a really poor signing for West Ham but in truth, I just don’t believe there is any truth to the report. The two clubs rarely do business with one another…

West Ham apparently want to sign Tottenham player

Football Transfers reckon that the Hammers have already made contact to sign the former Sporting Lisbon defender.

I’m sorry, but I just can’t see this one happening. I don’t believe we need him for a start – Moyes has Nayef Aguerd, Kurt Zouma, Konstantinos Mavropanos and Angelo Ogbonna as centre-back options right now.

I’m pretty sure Spurs would not entertain selling a player to us midway through the season either, even if Moyes was interested in Dier.

The last transfer between the two clubs took place nearly 13 years ago in 2011 when Scott Parker swapped East London for North London.

We signed Robbie Keane on loan from Tottenham in January 2011, but the last time we actually paid a fee for a player from Spurs was in January 2007 when Alan Curbishley brought Calum Davenport to Upton Park from White Hart Lane.

In addition to all of that, Dier has been absolutely horrendous for Spurs over the past couple of years. His sharp decline has been a fascinating one to witness, and he’s nowhere near playing under Ange Postecoglou right now, even with centre-back duo Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven both out injured.

That tells us all we need to know about the 29-year-old really, and I would be shocked if West Ham do sign the Tottenham Hotspur player in the January window. It’s just not happening in my opinion.
