West Ham fans have taken to Twitter in reaction to a report claiming that Manchester City ace Nathan Ake is keen to join the East London outfit.

The 26-year-old Man City defender is open to the idea of joining the Hammers in January according to a report from Eurosport.

West Ham boss David Moyes desperately needs to strengthen his central defensive ranks at the London Stadium next month.

Angelo Ogbonna was ruled out for the season after suffering an ACL injury whilst Kurt Zouma won’t be back playing again for at least a couple of months.

Ake would be a very strong signing for West Ham in January considering our current centre-back woes.

90 Min first reported about the Hammers’ interest in the 23-capped Holland international last week.

And now Eurosport are claiming that Ake is open to the idea of leaving the Etihad for the London Stadium in the January transfer window.

Manchester City signed the 26-year-old centre-back from Bournemouth for around £40 million back in 2020 (BBC).

The Dutchman has not featured regularly for Pep Guardiola, however, since moving to the Etihad. Ake has made just 12 Premier League starts for Man City.

So a move away from City to West Ham next month would make sense for all parties involved.

A loan deal for Ake in January with an option to buy him in the summer would be perfect for West Ham. Whether Manchester City would be willing to go along with those terms, however, remains to be seen.

West Ham fans react to Ake update

Moyes bringing in an established, proven and Premier League ready centre-back in January will be vital.

Ake would be a great addition for the Hammers. He has a key attribute that the Scot is after – the fact that he is left-footed.

Standing at just 5ft 11 in, the former Chelsea ace is far from dominant in the air but he is quick along the ground.

Ake is a very strong tackler and has impressive positional awareness.
