West Ham fans have taken to Twitter in reaction to claims that the Hammers have lodged a bid for Stade de Reims striker Hugo Ekitike.

David Moyes is well-known to be on the hunt for a new attacker as he strives to bring in more quality competition and cover for Michail Antonio at the London Stadium.

Le 10 Sport claimed yesterday that Reims attacker Hugo Ekitike is on the Hammers’ radar.

West Ham have allegedly made an offer of €25 million (£21 million) plus add-ons for the 19-year-old talent.

However, the bid has been knocked back. It remains to be seen whether the Hammers will lodge another offer for the young Frenchman.

Moyes should be going all out for him though, he really is an unbelievably talented young player.

Ekitike possesses blistering pace and has quite incredible movement. He is a defender’s nightmare. The Reims ace is a very good finisher as well.

In 20 games so far this season, the exciting teenager has bagged eight goals and four assists (Transfermarkt).

He is fairly slight, however, so may struggle to adapt to the intense nature of Premier League football. That will be the only concern that West Ham have about signing him.

Really though, that should not be a worry for the Hammers. He will naturally fill out and bulk up as he gets older.

Ekitike is very similar to a young Thierry Henry. If he goes on to enjoy even half the success that the former Arsenal and Barcelona man did then he will be a seriously good signing for whichever club wins the race for his signature.

West Ham fans react on Twitter to reported Hugo Ekitike bid

If the money is genuinely there for Moyes to spend in the January window, the Scot absolutely cannot afford to allow the deadline to pass without having brought in a top-class forward.

Our hopes if finishing inside the European places this season will depend upon it. The Hammers quite simply cannot continue to rely upon Michail Antonio as our only centre-forward option between now and the end of the season.

It seems as though the West Ham fans are thinking the same thing.

They took to Twitter yesterday when the news broke of the Hammers submitting an official offer for Reims ace Hugo Ekitike…
