One of the names on the Scot’s wish-list was Blackburn’s Brereton Diaz (The Sun and Estadio Deportivo).
The Chile international was on fire during the first-half of the season. The 22-year-old bagged 20 goals in 25 games for Blackburn up until December 29th (Soccerbase).

West Ham manager David Moyes really wanted to bring the striker to the London Stadium according to The Express (print edition January 22nd, page 74). West Ham dodged Brereton Diaz bullet
The 22-year-old centre-forward has been in woeful form for Blackburn since the end of December.
In fact, since being linked with a move to West Ham in January, Brereton Diaz has failed to score a goal in nine games (Soccerbase).
Blackburn wanted around £30 million for the Chile international according to TEAMtalk. Had West Ham signed him for that kind of money and he struggled to produce the goods in the Premier League, David Moyes would be under real pressure from the board and the fans.

Getting the striker signing 100% right will be crucial for the Hammers in the summer.
David Moyes needs to make sure that he signs the right player who will slot into the way that we play perfectly.
Who knows, Brereton Diaz may well have been that man.
The signs at the moment though are that he might just be a one season wonder.
And it appears as though West Ham may well have dodged a bullet by not signing Brereton Diaz in the January transfer window.
