Duje Caleta-Car allegedly would love a move to the Premier League and a deal for him to join West Ham is inching closer to completion.
That’s according to a report from Tuttomercatoweb who claim that talks between the Hammers and Marseille appear to be reaching a conclusion.
West Ham boss David Moyes desperately needs to bring a new centre-back to the London Stadium before the January transfer window slams shut.
Angelo Ogbonna is out for the entire season whilst Kurt Zouma has only recently returned to action. That means that we are only one central defensive injury away from having to play the hapless Issa Diop again.
The Hammers have a real chance of qualifying for some kind of European football again this season. In order to do just that though, the addition fo a couple of players before Monday’s deadline will be absolutely crucial.
It seems as though we are very close to getting one particular deal done…
West Ham close in on Caleta-Car deal
Tuttomercatoweb claims that the 25-year-old Marseille centre-back would love to move to West Ham.
It is also claimed that a deal between the Hammers and the Ligue 1 side is nearing completion.
There isn’t a mention of whether the deal will be a permanent one or a loan agreement with some kind of option or obligation to buy included in the terms.
Either way, Caleta-Car will be a fine addition to Moyes’s ranks at the London Stadium, if we do indeed sign him.
The 25-year-old is tall and commanding in the air and very comfortable with the ball at his feet as well. He is a very strong all-round defender and he would improve the Hammers’ back-line immeasurably. Well-renowned football analysis and scouting website IBWM recently described Caleta-Car as an ‘exceptional talent’.
According to a report from The Daily Mail, the Ligue 1 outfit were demanding £15 million for the 25-year-old centre-back. If West Ham have agreed to pay that, it will be great value for money.
Having his Croatian national team-mate Nikola Vlasic already at the London Stadium will undoubtedly help Caleta-Car settle into life in England as well.
Let’s hope that this one doesn’t drag on too long before it’s announced. West Ham have history of messing deals up in the latter stages.
Caleta-Car will be a very important signing for the Hammers. We haven’t got long to dot the I’s and cross the T’s though. The clock is ticking…
