West Ham United beating Arsenal to the signing of Youri Tielemans this summer would be a truly massive statement.

The Hammers and Arsenal both want to sign the 25-year-old Leicester City midfielder in the summer transfer window according to a report from The Mirror.

Tielemans would take the Hammers attacking play to a whole new level entirely.

And beating Arsenal to his signature would be a hugely significant moment for us as a football club.

But can we win the race for the 52-capped Belgium international? We truly believe that West Ham can beat Arsenal to Tielemans’ signature this summer.

For a couple of reasons…

West Ham beating Arsenal to Tielemans this summer would be a major statement

The Mirror reckon that David Moyes is desperate to bring the 25-year-old midfielder to the London Stadium in the summer.

If the Hammers do sign the Belgian, he would be an undoubtedly regular starter in Moyes’s starting lineup. Meanwhile, he wouldn’t have those assurances at Arsenal.

Thomas Partey, Granit Xhaka and Mohamed Elneny, Fabio Vieira and Albert Sambi Lokonga will all be battling it out for the two central midfield spots at The Emirates.

And at the same time, Mikel Arteta has Martin Odegaard at his disposal as far as creative number 10’s go.

Much will depend on what Tielemans actually wants. Does he want guaranteed regular action or is he the kind of player who’s happy to play a peripheral role whilst picking up a fat pay-check every week?

We strongly believe that he’s the former.

It’s not as if Arsenal have Champions League football to offer the 25-year-old either.

What a great signing Tielemans would be for West Ham. If Moyes manages to bring the Belgian to the London Stadium, it would be a real statement of intent from the Hammers.

The 25-year-old is a creative central midfielder with an exceptional range of passing. He is full of energy and has proven that he is very well suited to the English game.

Tielemans has bagged 24 goals and 24 assists in 157 games for Leicester (Transfermarkt).

The former Anderlecht and Monaco ace’s intelligence and awareness in possession would take the Hammers’ to a whole new level entirely when progressing the ball up the pitch at speed.

The Leicester Mercury recently described the 25-year-old as an ‘exceptional’ player.

He could be available for around £40 million this summer (The Sun).

That would represent good value for someone with the Belgian’s ability.

And if West Ham do manage to beat Arsenal to the signing of Tielemans in the summer transfer window, it would be a clear sign that we mean business.

At the same time, missing out on the Leicester ace would be a big blow for the Gunners, such is his undeniable talent and ability.
