West Ham United are allegedly keen to sign Leicester City midfielder Youri Tielemans in the summer transfer window.

That’s according to a report from The Mirror who claim that the Hammers are ambitiously planning to hijack Arsenal’s move to sign the 25-year-old Leicester ace.

David Moyes is expected to be an incredibly busy man in the transfer market this summer and has already brought two top-class internationals to the London Stadium.

The additions of a top-class centre-forward, an elite left-back a creative winger and a quality, attack-minded central midfielder will be next up on the agenda for the West Ham manager.

Declan Rice and Tomas Soucek need more competition and cover in the middle of the park at the London Stadium. And if truth be told, we need a central midfielder with a totally different skillset to the England and Czech Republic internationals.

It seems as though Moyes has a really ambitious plan in place to strengthen his central midfield ranks considerably…

West Ham eye ambitious Youri Tielemans swoop

The Mirror writer Darren Lewis has claimed that the Hammers are trying to hijack Arsenal’s move to sign the Leicester City midfield star.

The 52-capped Belgium international is available for around £40 million according to the likes of the Sun.

The 25-year-old is out of contract with Leicester next summer though, so the longer this one drags on, the cheaper he could become.

The problem is that Arsenal are chasing him as well, so if the West Ham owners are trying to hijack the Gunners’ move to sign Tielemans, they will have to be prepared to pay top dollar.

What a great signing Tielemans would be for West Ham. If Moyes manages to bring the Belgian to the London Stadium, it would be a real statement of intent from the Hammers.

The 25-year-old is a creative central midfielder with an exceptional range of passing. He is full of energy and has proven that he is very well suited to the English game.

Tielemans has bagged 24 goals and 24 assists in 157 games for Leicester (Transfermarkt).

The former Anderlecht and Monaco ace’s intelligence and awareness in possession would take the Hammers’ to a whole new level entirely when progressing the ball up the pitch at speed.

£40 million does sound like an awful lot of money for West Ham to be spending on one player this summer, especially considering how many additions Moyes needs to make.

The thing is, in today’s market, spending £40 million on an elite central midfielder is actually seen as good business. And the Leicester ace certainly fits into that category.

If West Ham do manage to beat Arsenal to Youri Tielemans this summer, it would be a massive statement from the East London outfit.
