West Ham and Newcastle have received two big answers on the Kalvin Phillips situation after a reported plea from his agent.
West Ham and Newcastle United are said to be the two Premier League clubs vying to sign Kalvin Phillips on loan in the January transfer window.
Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola publicly admitted the longstanding Hammers and Magpies target will be leaving this month.
West Ham boss David Moyes has held an interest in Phillips stretching way back to the January 2022 window when he was still at Leeds.
West Ham and Newcastle battle for Phillips
The Hammers made a £50m bid for Phillips back then which was rejected by Leeds, who went on to sell him for £5m less to Man City in the summer – as confirmed by Moyes himself.
With his place in the England squad for this summer’s Euros very much at risk, Phillips is looking to move and Newcastle and West Ham are waiting in the wings according to the likes of Sky Sports and talkSPORT.
Now West Ham and Newcastle have received two big answers on Phillips as his agents make a plea.
The first is when West Ham or Newcastle can expect to get Phillips in the door with the clock ticking on the window?

Well Man City have reportedly said that Phillips’ departure to a new club will be finalised next week, as reported by Goal.
How much and will there be an obligation or option to buy?
Well reports have abound that West Ham and Newcastle have been asked to pay a whopping £7m loan fee. And there have been conflicting reports about the champions insisting on an obligation to buy – with others claiming there is no option to buy.
That has led to a plea from Phillips’ agents to lower those demands as they feel it is putting clubs off.
But CBS journalist Ben Jacobs has denied that is the case and says West Ham are ‘ones to watch’ for the deal.
‘Keep an eye on West Ham’
“Kalvin Phillips still expected to leave Manchester City before the window shuts,” Jacobs said after reports emerged claiming Newcastle have pulled out.
“Sources firmly deny Man City are insisting on an obligation to buy or that loan fee demands are too high. Understand City are actually open to a deal structure to suit all parties and relaxed because even a straight loan will help gain Phillips minutes and raised value come summer.
“Keep an eye on West Ham. Everton and Atletico Madrid have enquired. Roy Hodgson has also confirmed Palace’s interest. Newcastle have long-admired Phillips meaning a move still can’t be ruled out, but other clubs more active in recent days. Juventus the only team to date to actually table a formal bid. Phillips, and Man City still expect a solution before the window shuts due to the volume of interest.”
