West Ham allegedly well in the mix to sign £16.5m attacker with zero goals this season in the summer transfer window

West Ham are allegedly well in the mix to sign talented Lille attacker Jonathan Bamba in the summer transfer window.

That’s according to a report from Gazzetta dello Sport who claim that the Hammers could be set to submit a €20 million (£16.5 million) offer for the 25-year-old forward before the start of next season.

West Ham boss David Moyes actually wanted to bring Bamba to the London Stadium from Lille in the summer of 2021 according to a report from The Express.

The Hammers ended up signing Nikola Vlasic from CSKA Moscow instead.

That doesn’t mean that the East London outfit have completely given up on the idea of bringing in Bamba…far from it.

And it seems as though we could be set to go back in for the Lille attacker in the summer.

West Ham eyeing up move to sign £16.5m attacker in summer transfer window

Gazzetta dello Sport claims that the 25-year-old winger is expected to leave Lille at the end of this season and the Hammers are one of the clubs thought to be chasing his signature.

David Moyes allegedly wants to add more pace and firepower to his attacking ranks at the London Stadium.

Bamba is a left winger by trade although he can play anywhere along the front-line really.

The Lille ace has actually been in poor form this season. He has failed to score a goal thus far and has registered just three assists in 25 games (Transfermarkt).

Having said that, he does have plenty of attributes that Moyes will be attracted to.

Bamba has electric pace, is incredibly hard to push off the ball and plays with a certain kind of directness that makes him ideally suited to the football deployed by Moyes.

He would certainly add much more variety to West Ham’s attacking play.

The big question though is why would West Ham spend just under £17 million on a forward who has failed to score a single goal this season?

Surely Moyes’s priority should be to sign a proven goalscorer, preferably someone who has done it before in the Premier League.

Jonathan Bamba certainly doesn’t fit into that category.

Sure, he’s a lively forward player with plenty of pace but he’s just not what we need this summer. And we strongly believe that’s signing Bamba from Lille for £16.5 million could end up being a big mistake from West Ham.
