Bayer Leverkusen have held positive talks with West Ham about potentially signing Vladimir Coufal in the January transfer window.
That’s according to Sky Germany reporter Marlon Irlbacher who claims that the 30-year-old Hammers right-back is open to the idea of joining Leverkusen.
Coufal was brought to the Hammers for around £4 million in October 2020 (The Sun).
Initially, he made such a promising start to life at West Ham and looked like an incredibly good value for money signing.
The 30-year-old has regressed badly over the past year or so though, and it seems as though his days at the London Stadium could well be numbered…

Sky Germany reporter Marlon Irlbacher reckons that initial discussions between Leverkusen and the Hammers have been positive regarding a potential transfer of Coufal:
I believe that David Moyes should move Coufal on – he’s clearly not good enough to the playing Premier League football anymore.
Coufal suffered a groin injury playing for West Ham against Manchester United in the Carabao Cup in September 2021, but kept playing through the pain for quite some time.
He was then forced to spend an extensive period on the sidelines because of the injury and in truth, he never really returned as the same player.
A lot of players struggle to get back to their very best after serious injuries. Most of those players have gone through things like leg breaks of ACL injuries though.
Coufal’s injury was only a groin strain in fairness.
Now, the fact that he’s 30 clearly hasn’t helped. He will be on the downturn physically anyway, regardless of injuries.
Gone is the player who absolutely dominated attackers like Jack Grealish and Heung-Min Son last season.
The 30-year-old right-back is a shadow of his former self…at both ends of the pitch I might add.
And if Vladimir Coufal leaves West Ham to join Bayer Leverkusen in January, I’d be more than happy with that.
