West Ham United have allegedly made contact with Manchester United about signing Eric Bailly this summer.
That’s according to a report from The Athletic who claim that the Hammers could sign Bailly on a season-long loan despite the fact that Manchester United would prefer to sell him.
West Ham boss David Moyes urgently needs to bolster his centre-back ranks at the London Stadium and the Manchester United man may well be the answer to the Scot’s problems.
Nayef Aguerd is out injured and the same can be said for Craig Dawson. Meanwhile, Issa Diop has left to join Fulham whilst Angelo Ogbonna is not yet ready to play, having spent nine months on the sidelines with an ACL injury.
It seems as though Moyes is desperate to bring in reinforcements asap…
West Ham make Eric Bailly contact
The Hammers have initiated contact with Manchester United about signing the 28-year-old centre-back before the transfer window slams shut.
Man United signed the 28-year-old from Villarreal in 2016 for around €40 million (£34 million) according to AC Milan Info. The Red Devils are reportedly now asking for just £6.7 million for the centre-back (Calcio Mercato).
Despite struggling for Manchester United at times, he’s still a very good player and has all of the attributes needed to succeed at the very highest level.
The Sun recently described Bailly as a ‘brilliant’ defender and on his day, he is certainly one of the very best around.
The 28-year-old stands at 6ft 2in tall, is strong in the air and in the challenge and is very quick along the ground.
One word of warning is that he lacks concentration sometimes but who knows, perhaps that’s because he needs a fresh start under a new manager.
£6.7 million for a player with Bailly’s quality seems like a fantastic bargain. Sure, we’d prefer Thilo Kehrer, but Bailly would not be a bad alternative option at all.
And if West Ham manage to sign Eric Bailly on a season-long loan from Manchester United, we believe the Ivorian will be a fine addition for the club.
