Striker Santiago Gimenez has opened up on a January move as West Ham and Chelsea battle for the 21-goal star.

West Ham and Chelsea have been striking a light on their search for a new forward because they’re a striker light.

And according to the likes of HITC and a host of other outlets, that has seen the Hammers and Blues take a keen interest in the same player – Santiago Gimenez of Feyenoord.

Recent claims from Holland stated West Ham are sounding out Mexico striker Gimenez.

But the Mexico international’s goal per game form has also attracted West Ham’s profligate rivals Chelsea.

Gimenez opens up on move as West Ham and Chelsea do battle

Especially after Mauricio Pochettino spoke out to insist Chelsea need a striker amid Christopher Nkunku’s fitness struggles and the poor form of Armando Broja and Nicolas Jackson.

West Ham’s forward line has been decimated since the turn of the year with Mohammed Kudus at AFCON, and trio Jarrod Bowen, Lucas Paqueta and Michail Antonio all injured.

It has been claimed Feyenoord ‘have little interest in selling Gimenez’ amid the interest from the London rivals.

But now striker Gimenez has opened up on a move as West Ham and Chelsea battle for the 21-goal star.

‘There is a path’

Speaking to Spanish outlet Marca – as transcribed by Hammers News – Gimenez has made it clear he is keen to move on soon as long as Feyenoord get the fee they desire.

“Starting off my journey in Europe here (at Feyenoord) has been a success,” Gimenez said.

“The club has had success as they have gotten the most out of me.

“And I know they want to see me grow so they can sell me at the highest possible price. That is the reality that clubs like (Feyenoord) live off of that.

“There is the path, and I am very calm in that aspect.”

Ironically West Ham have turned attentions to Gimenez and others having given up on Chelsea’s Broja.

The top source inside the club told Hammers News this weekend that David Moyes did like Broja.

But the contact stated that Chelsea are simply demanding far too much money.
