Sky Sports man says West Ham United need to get a £17m deal they are working on to sign Thilo Kehrer done ASAP.

West Ham had just one centre-back in their entire squad for the opening day defeat to Man City.

So it is clear that there is truth in persistent rumours surrounding David Moyes’ desire to add another defender to his squad.

Especially after the Scot this week sanctioned the sale of Issa Diop to Fulham.

West Ham have been linked with a host of targets including Attilia Szalai of Fenerbahce and Thilo Kehrer at PSG.

Sky Sports has claimed West Ham have made an offer to sign German defender Kehrer – believed to be around £17m.

“The 25-year-old international, who can play at right-back and centre-back, has been identified as a defensive target by the Hammers,” states Sky Sports.

“West Ham are awaiting a response from the Ligue 1 champions and have other options to pursue if an agreement cannot be reached.”

But West Ham cannot afford to hang around getting this particular transfer done.

One Sky Sports man says West Ham need to get the £17m deal they are working on to sign Kehrer done ASAP.

Because he is perfect for Moyes and other clubs could well pounce according to broadcaster Kweku Afari when he was asked about the potential deal for the versatile defender on Sky Sports.

“He’s a ball playing centre-back and that’s what everybody is looking for at the moment,” Afari said on Sky Sports.

“He can also operate on both sides, primarily as a right-back but also on the left side as well.

“And he is a player that West Ham need. As outlined they’re short of options in the centre-back position.

“Craig Dawson is a somebody they relied on heavily last season but he’s getting up there in age, 32-years-old.

“So it will freshen up West Ham’s backline. Obviously Kurt Zouma was their big acquisition last summer and (Angelo) Ogbonna suffered with injury Bringing in Kehrer will reinforce that backline and mean that they’re well positioned to push for Europe again this season.”

Afari is right to urge West Ham to expedite their move for Kehrer.

The Hammers have missed out on far too many signings this summer with the way they conduct business.

And they can’t afford to lose out to any rivals for yet another.
