West Ham strike £17m transfer deal to sell wantaway Issa Diop to Fulham after David Moyes admission

West Ham have struck a £17m transfer deal to sell wantaway Issa Diop to Fulham after a David Moyes admission.

It has been widely publicised that West Ham had an agreement in place to sell Diop to Fulham and that the player himself wants to leave this summer.

The likes of L’Equipe claim a deal was agreed but Hammers boss Moyes – understandably – hit pause on the deal following the pre-season injury to £30m new signing Nayef Aguerd.

Moyes confirmed at the weekend that the Moroccan left-sided centre-back looks set to be out for another 10 weeks.

That had left Diop – who has never been able to establish himself in the West Ham side under Moyes – in limbo.

Diop was reportedly unhappy with West Ham’s stance as he was keen to kickstart is stuttering career with London rivals Fulham.

According to Foot Mercato journalist Dahbia Hattabi a deal has been done between West Ham and Fulham for the wantaway defender.

“Agreement between West Ham and Fulham for the transfer of Issa Diop, Hattabi said on Twitter.

“Amount of the operation £17m, just over €20m. The defender will sign a 5-year contract.”

Diop’s position at West Ham is simply untenable after the claim from Moyes.

So shipping him out is the only option.

It also suggests West Ham are confident of signing another centre-back in the near future.

The Hammers look set to miss out on Conor Coady to Everton.

West Ham have also been linked with a move for Fenerbahce and Hungary centre-back Attila Szalai.
