Ex West Ham United midfield star Cheikhou Kouyate could sign for Nottingham Forest in time to face his old club.
Kouyate was a fan favourite at West Ham but his star looked to be fading when the Hammers elected to sell him to London rivals Crystal Palace for £10m in 2018.
The Senegalese midfielder made 129 appearances for the Hammers over four years.
And ironically he now seems set to leave Palace after the same number of games during his four years at Selhurst Park.
Kouyate established himself as a firm fans’ favourite when he was signed for £7.5 million from Anderlecht in 2015.
His energy, enthusiasm, tackling, pace and power in central midfield saw him quickly become a key cog in the team.
Kouyate’s versatility was also invaluable often operating with aplomb at centre back or even at right back when required.
Never making a fuss about being played out of position and always a happy, smiling influence on the team, Kouyate was loved by his teammates.
And it appears to have been a similar tale for Kouyate at Palace ever since his 2018 move from West Ham.
Now ex West Ham midfield star Kouyate could sign for Nottingham Forest in time to face his old club.
Forest, like West Ham, lost their opening game of the season 2-0.
The newly-promoted side were beaten by Newcastle but entertain West Ham at the City Ground on Sunday for their first home game back in the Premier League.
Should Kouyate join Forest and be registered in time to face David Moyes’ side, he will not be the only ex West Ham man lining up in the red of the hosts.
Jesse Lingard will undoubtedly be facing West Ham having somewhat controversially snubbed a return to the London Stadium to join Steve Cooper’s Nottingham Forest on a one-year deal.
Kouyate has always received a good reception from Hammers fans when West Ham have played against Palace.
It remains to be seen whether that will be the case for Lingard.
