Sky Sports has made an intriguing claim about West Ham United being active in the January transfer window.

With West Ham having endured a woeful first half of the season thus far, many fans feel the club must strengthen again next month to avoid a disaster.

Moyes was backed with £170m as he signed eight players in the summer.

But there is no hiding the fact the Hammers are short in several key areas, particularly at fullback and up front.

The team’s goalscoring issues are best highlighted by the fact West Ham have scored only 13 league goals all season – the joint third worst in the top flight.

Many fans were disappointed when Moyes told talkSPORT this week that he would not be looking to sign players in the winter window.

“Nah, I don’t think we will,” was Moyes’ blunt response on talkSPORT when asked if West Ham will strengthen during the window.

With the Hammers just one point off the bottom three ahead of the restart many may feel that is a big risk in an ultra competitive Premier League.

But under pressure Moyes appeared to soften his January transfer stance in a recent interview where he stated ‘you never can tell’.

One report claims West Ham’s owners told Moyes they will find the money for a striker in January if he wishes to sign one.

Moyes is said to have – bizarrely – declined the offer.

Now Sky Sports has made an intriguing claim about West Ham being active in the January transfer window.

In an assessment of each club’s plans for the winter window, Sky Sports concedes it is likely to be a quiet window for the Hammers off the back of the big summer spend.

But reporter Dharmesh Sheth claims West Ham ‘have their eyes open’ in the market – suggesting they are willing and ready to do deals should the opportunity arise.

“West Ham have their eyes open in the market, but increasingly likely to be a quiet window following the record spend in the summer,” Sheth says on Sky Sports.

“Manager David Moyes has reiterated his new look squad needs time to gel. There has been lots of talk about Declan Rice’s future – he won’t leave in January, but he could be one of the big stories in the summer.

“West Ham have a few injury concerns in defence and do not want to let anyone go – however, right back Vladimir Coufal is growing increasingly frustrated with his limited game time. He could be one to watch in January.”

If Moyes or the owners genuinely think they can get away without strengthening in January they are utterly deluded.

Make absolutely no mistake about it, West Ham are in danger of being embroiled in a relegation battle for the rest of the season.

Only consecutive wins can alleviate the pressure that is building at the London Stadium.
