West Ham United are allegedly eyeing an exciting free transfer for powerful centre-back Dan-Axel Zagadou.
That’s according to a report from The Sun who claim that the Hammers are trying to beat Roma manager Jose Mourinho to the 23-year-old free agent this summer.

And Moyes may well be even more keen to sign the Frenchman now with Nayef Aguerd out injured.

The problem for the Scot is that he has so many other areas in need of strengthening as well. So the chance to bring in a top-class centre-back for absolutely nothing is undoubtedly one that will appeal to him…
West Ham eyeing Dan-Axel Zagadou
The Sun reckon that the Hammers are battling Roma for the free agent’s signature this summer.
We would absolutely love to see the 23-year-old at the London Stadium.
Whichever club wins the race for Zagadou’s signature will be getting a serious player – the young Frenchman is that good.
He only made 15 Bundesliga appearances for Borussia Dortmund last season but don’t let that fool you, he really is an exceptional defender.
BVB’s official website describe the centre-back as an ‘incredible’ player.
Standing at 6ft 6in tall, Zagadou is strong in the air but he is also quick along the ground.
The Dortmund ace is very good with the ball at his feet as well. In 15 league appearances last season he made an average of 60.2 passes per game and registered an incredibly impressive 88.2% completion rate (Who Scored).
He’s left footed as well – a crucial attribute for any defender David Moyes brings in this summer because it means that he can play at left-back if need be as well.

There is one huge red flag for West Ham to take note of though…the 22-year-old’s horrendous record with injuries.
Since 2018, Zagadou has missed 563 days of action through injury (Transfermarkt). Most of his problems have been with his knee and he recently underwent surgery to fix that particular issue.
His availability on a free transfer means that he will be a low-risk signing for West Ham though, in spite of his recent injury problems…
And if West Ham bring in Dan-Axel Zagadou on a free transfer, we think it will be great business for the club.
